Packaging machines are the final link in any production line. When they break down, the entire line stops. Factory maintenance teams often face the classic problem: the machine suddenly stops working, and nobody knows where to start troubleshooting.

1. Case Sealer Troubleshooting

1.1 Tape Not Sticking or Coming Off

The most common complaint. Tape doesn't stick to the carton, or pops open immediately after sealing.

Root causes:

  • Low quality tape: Cheap tape has poor adhesion, especially in cold environments
  • Insufficient roller pressure: Worn or loose spring on the tape head rollers
  • Dusty carton surface: Paper dust from carton cutting sticks to the surface
  • Improper tape brake tension: Too much tension stretches the tape; too little causes wrinkles

4. Stretch Wrapper Troubleshooting

4.1 Film Breaks or Uneven Stretch

  • Pre-stretch ratio too high: Exceeding film limit
  • Poor quality film: Inconsistent gauge or edge damage
  • Faulty film carriage brake: Erratic tension
  • Sharp load corners: No edge protectors used

  1. Reduce pre-stretch ratio (standard 200-250%, max 300%)

4.2 Turntable Not Turning

5. Sealing Machine Troubleshooting

5.1 Weak Seal / Leaks

Seal has pinholes or opens easily.

  • Low temperature: Film not fully fused
  • Insufficient pressure: Weak cylinder or spring
  • Short dwell time: Continuous sealer running too fast
  • Aged silicone rubber: Deformed rubber leaves uneven pressure
  • Wrong film type: Different films need different sealing temperatures

5.2 Burning Smell or Smoke

Checklist: Reduce temperature setting; clean heating bar; replace damaged PTFE tape

5.3 Unclear Seal Pattern

Root causes: Worn crimp roller; excessive roller gap; wrong silicone hardness
